Raised on a diet of Blade Runner, Bad Brains and black eyeliner, Company of Strangers this winter present a call to the outside girl who intimidates with smarts and scowls at the world from behind a blunted fringe. By now well recognised for her talent in turning questionable 80’s leathers into timeless one-off accessories, designer Sara Aspinall once again wows in Misery Loves Company with a collection of hand-made totes, satchels and purses that have seen previously overlooked items go from bad to bad-ass. Aspinall’s signature biker satchel (recently named by Metro magazine as “Best Handbag of 2009”) is this season updated in mottled grey and patchwork leather. Aspinall has this season confidently immersed herself into the world of clothing with a full range of de-constructed, re-worked and sleekly sexy pieces. Gossamer sheaths are kept tough with chains woven into the hem; fluid laces and cottons are tempered by sharply-tailored leather jackets and bustier vests, while the aptly dark palette is punctuated by feverish prints and sucker-punches of aubergine, ink and burnished orange.Visit the site & online store www.companyofstrangers.co.nz
