In the Company of... Online manager, Diane
Like many Kiwis, we've been adapting to the new normal, with a focus on slowing down and taking time to pause and refresh.
So we thought it would be a great time to introduce ourselves and become a Community of Friends, not a Company of Strangers.
Each week we will introduce a new team member along with a little bit about them. This week it is the turn of Online Manager and self-proclaimed lover of cats, Diane Rohtmets.
What is your role at Company of Strangers?
I manage our online store & social channels.
What helps you feel inspired both in and outside of work?
Art is something that continues to inspire me. Currently, I’m into mixed media, collage artists like John Stezaker and Robert Rauschenberg.
Is there an album or artist that helps motivate your work?
At the moment I've been listening to Orville Peck, I really like his slightly distorted take on country ballads also he has a great presence in his videos.
Or some pumping ‘80s hits! It's a popular choice for getting motivated at the workroom.
Is there something that’s helped you stay motivated during isolation?
I've been giving myself lots of little mini projects to stay motivated and regular walks up to the lookout at the top of my street that has great views over the city.
Oh.. and Coffee! I've been having a lot of hot drinks during the lockdown.
Favourite activity/food/or TV show to help de-stress?
I find that watching some good British comedy and hanging out with my two cats seems to help me unwind and de-stress.
Do you have any films or TV shows that inspire your personal aesthetic or your work?
Anything by Jim Jarmusch really. I love the pace of his work, how every frame feels like an artwork. Often followed by some amazing atmospheric soundtrack, like Neil Young’s for Deadman. Only Lovers Left Alive is another fave.
What do you think is unique to Dunedin’s creative scene?
For a small city, it really nurtures creatives and there are some great creative schools here - Otago School of Art/ School of Fashion, with some great mentors.
