DESIGN & MANUFACTURING
Our design is thoroughly grounded in ongoing artistic collaborations, nuanced by the contemporary art world, music, film and powerful feminine muses. Our garments reflect a twisted nod to the familiar, often referencing our own archives, vintage garments and traditional uniform details.
Our designs transcend age, season and disposition. We recognise that we are all unique with individual body types and tastes. We envisage each piece having multiple ways to be worn. Our garments have the functionality to allow the wearer to adjust and explore the design, giving a sense of ownership and self-expression.
Each collection is created through an explorative sampling process, concept designs are draped, recreated and tested extensively by our designers before going into manufacture.
Each season we build on the last, we never compromise on design or quality.
Our small team is based in Dunedin, New Zealand. Company of Strangers’ is proudly made in New Zealand and we are committed to supporting onshore manufacturing.
It is important to us that we continue to support local craftspeople. Their skills, experience, love and wisdom are what makes Company of Strangers garments such high quality. We believe this to be essential in preserving the specialty skills of the New Zealand fashion industry.
We produce small, seasonal runs using fabrics and components sourced from local suppliers. We strive to ensure all aspects of our production, from design to manufacture, including fabric dyeing and printing, consume as little as possible.
We are constantly working towards our goals to minimize waste and manufacture under ethical conditions within our contracted companies, ensuring our supply chain to be ethically traceable and sustainably responsible.
